Funding is now available for projects for the International Polar Year Program-NSF

Applications due May 1, 2006

The National Science Foundation has announced that funding is available for projects for the International Polar Year Program.

There are emphasis areas under both research and education programs in which GIS technology is particularly applicable. These include

  • Ice sheet history and dynamics
  • Arctic Observing Network
  • Data storage, access, and visualization related to one of the three emphases
  • Polar formal science education: Subcategories include fieldwork experiences for K-12 educators and training of undergraduate and graduate students
  • Polar informal science education: Efforts to engage the general public through a wide range of media
